How come our telescopes can see through the asteroid belt and Oort cloud & have images of deep space?

How come our telescopes can see through the asteroid belt and Oort cloud? If they can take images of deep space, why do they only speculate there's an Oort cloud? They have only just discovered the planet Sedna which is inside the Oort cloud, so how do they get the images of deep space?
