Starter removal on 91 gmc jimmy?

the book sez to remove the skid plate done. remover the cross member under the skid plate wdf? no theres no cross member there theres just the frame. i took the starter bolts out and tried to wiggle it out but its caught between the frame and the control arm and the front axel bracket and i dont really wanna talk off ther right side front end am i doing something wrong can some one help me out in details?
