Explain why mitosis is normal in mules but meiosis is not?

Mules are sterile animals because they are a cross between a horse and a donkey, which are different species and produce infertile offspring. Meiosis in animals is a way to produce sperm and eggs, and so as they are sterile there is no meiosis. There is however mitosis as that is how cells divide normally to produce the tissues and organs of the mule
